OptiCare, an innovative startup in the field of ophthalmology, announces the launch of an innovative web application that allows doctors to detect vision disorders through the use of artificial intelligence. The application is developed by a team of Romanian IT specialists led by Andrei Brodețchi, in collaboration with Sinziana Istrate, a primary ophthalmologist.
“Vision testing through telemedicine will bring quality services for people available at home and will facilitate early diagnosis and interventions, helping us maintain the health of the eyes. It is important to periodically check our eye health even if we do not encounter vision problems. Visual acuity, the ability of the eyes to perceive fine details, is an essential aspect of ocular health. Vision problems such as myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, and others can significantly impact the quality of life, and unfortunately, many people facing these issues sometimes reach the doctor too late,” said Sinziana Istrate, Primary Ophthalmologist and Co-founder OptiCare.

How the Application Works
The application works very simply and is similar to a check-up in the office. You only need a laptop and a mobile phone, and by scanning a QR code, you can access visual acuity testing services. Once the application is accessed, you sit at the indicated distance, and in just a few minutes, you start the test, checking both distance and near vision. Subsequently, the result can be sent to the ophthalmologist for interpretation, who will prescribe treatment, or if necessary, the person is recommended to visit the doctor for additional evaluations.
The application has been tested in Optissima and Bine clinics and can be used for visual acuity testing, with further tests being developed for a complete consultation. The application can be downloaded from the website https://opticare.app/ or used directly from the browser.
In Romania, in 2020, over 3.3 million people were registered with visual acuity problems, of which approximately 60,000 were blind. Globally, at least 22 billion people have a vision deficiency. Among these, approximately 1 billion have an ophthalmological problem that could have been prevented if they had timely medical care, according to the first global report on eye health issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) – (source INSP).
