Name: Nannette Berensen

Previous title: Vice president and chief operating officer of clinical shared services, Intermountain Health

New title: Chief operating officer, Intermountain Health

Intermountain Healthcare has added Berensen to the non-profit system’s C-suite board. Former COO Rob Allen was promoted to CEO of the health system in December.

The executive transitions at Intermountain come after former CEO Marc Harrison announced his plans to step down in August of last year to join private equity firm General Catalyst.

As COO, Berensen will oversee operations across Intermountain’s footprint, which includes 33 hospitals across seven states and a health plan division.

Berensen first worked for the Salt Lake City-based hospital operator as a phlebotomist during college and ultimately returned to Intermountain in 2006 as its director of pharmacy services. Most recently, she served as vice president and COO of Intermountain’s Clinical Shared Services division.

She earned both a doctorate of pharmacy and masters of business administration degrees from the University of Utah, in addition to recently receiving a masters in healthcare administration from the University of Providence. Before returning to Intermountain in 2006, Berenson served as an associate professor at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy and was a director at its Drug Information Center.

In late January, Intermountain announced that it was rebranding, from Intermountain Healthcare to Intermountain Health.
