How 95 top hospitals address diagnostic errors
How 95 top hospitals address diagnostic errors unknown
For each of the 29 recommended practices to reduce diagnostic errors, Leapfrog found at least 60% of leading hospitals are working on enforcing the practice. But full compliance is low.
In the organization's pilot survey investigating diagnostic excellence, 95 hospitals volunteered to participate. Most respondents said they were open to the 29 practices and were at least beginning to implement them, but many recommendations were not widely considered for adoption, Leapfrog said March 26.
On average, 15% of hospitals said each practice was "not under consideration," the report found. Although full implementation was rare, the hospitals requested a hierarchical ranking of each practice to help with future plans.
On April 1, Leapfrog will release questions to assess diagnostic excellence, like a rubric, to help hospitals prioritize diagnostic error practices. The recommended practices can be accessed here.
