GE HealthCare hires Kass-Hout as first CTO and more digital health hires unknown
GE HealthCare named Dr. Taha Kass-Hout as the newly spun-out company's first chief technology officer.
Kass-Hout comes to GE from Amazon Web Services, where he served as vice president of machine learning and chief medical officer. He was also chief health informatics officer at the FDA for two terms during the Obama Administration and director of information science and informatics for the CDC.
He'll work in partnership with the independent company's four business segments — imaging, ultrasound, patient care solutions and pharmaceutical diagnostics — and its global engineering and machine learning teams.
"As a clinician, public servant and digital health and ML expert, I am honored to join the GE HealthCare team, whose passion, purpose and commitment to lead the digital transformation and improve outcomes for patients and providers clearly aligns with mine," Kass-Hout said in a statement. "I am excited about what lies ahead and the incredible opportunity to deliver on GE HealthCare’s purpose of creating a world where healthcare has no limits and establishing a new frontier in advancing diagnostics and personalized therapeutics to people."
Transcarent, a healthcare platform for employers, has hired Janine Gianfredi as chief marketing officer.
She most recently served as head of marketing at Redesign Health, which helps build, launch and find funding for digital health startups. She previously worked at Instagram, Alphabet’s Loon and Google.
"As we put health consumers back in charge of their care, Janine’s experience in leading successful marketing and communications programs at places like Instagram and Google paired with her time in healthcare is a perfect fit to enable Transcarent to deliver easy access to high-quality, affordable care for our members and align with those who pay for care," CEO Glen Tullman said in a statement. "We are excited to welcome Janine to Transcarent as our chief marketing officer."
Oak Street Health announced it had appointed Dr. Deb Edberg as the primary care provider's first chief wellness officer.
Edberg joined Oak Street Health in 2019 as a family medicine physician. She'd previously worked as an associate professor and director of graduate medical education development for the Rush University Department of Family Medicine.
The new role aims to help support the company's provider workforce. Physician burnout has grown in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Wellness is not a problem to be solved, but rather an ongoing commitment to our teammates at Oak Street Health," Edberg said in a statement. "It is paramount that our frontline providers find joy and fulfillment in the work that they do, in addition to feeling seen and heard, so they can deliver the highest quality primary care to our patients. I am thrilled to begin this new role to help advance that commitment."
