Danish health tech startup’s AI solution for healthcare workers attracts €4.8 million in funding Nurcin Metingil

Copenhagen-based startup Teton.ai has collected €4.8 million in a funding round led by Plural along with angels including Finn Murphy, formerly at Frontline Ventures. The startup develops cutting-edge deep learning and computer vision products empowering caregivers to do more with less. Teton intends to use the funds to take its technology to another level and explore Nordics outside Denmark.

Teton.ai is a startup in the health tech industry, originating from Denmark, which has designed an AI-based solution to ease the burden on nurses. Their AI assistant offers a comprehensive overview of the ward’s events and alerts nurses when patient care is required, monitors sleep, and issues fall warnings. In addition, the ward is equipped with intelligent cameras that track patient activities and updates. Teton.ai’s ultimate objective is to leverage technology to reduce false alarms and minimize unnecessary alerts by providing real-time notifications to nurses when immediate care is needed for a patient. The startup plans to expand its services to other regions like the Nordic, Europe, the US, and the UK, with an eventual plan to develop a fully virtual nurse to support healthcare workers.

Mikkel Wad Thorsen, co-founder and CEO of Teton.ai: “Countries across the world are facing problems with staff shortages in both hospitals and the wider care sector. This problem is only getting bigger with pressures mounting to provide high-quality care to a growing ageing population. Our AI solution, which has privacy integrated into the design, gives nurses more time to take care of patients and residents, without burdening their workload. We’re excited about the impact this will have globally and look forward to working with the Plural team to help us scale up and expand in the next few years.”

Taavet Hinrikus, who led the investment round at Plural Platform: “Growing demand from an ageing population and shortage of supply of trained staff are the two big issues creating challenges in healthcare systems around the world. In line with Plural’s ambition to solve hard problems, we see huge potential for Teton.ai as a European-founded company building an AI-assisted technology platform to support nurses to provide better patient care. Teton’s mission is vital and we are thrilled to be working closely with Mikkel, Esben and the team.”
