Amazon will be the biggest threat to health systems' core business: Survey unknown
Fifty-two percent of health tech experts surveyed by Health Tech Nerds, an informational platform focusing on healthcare business, said Amazon would be the biggest threat to health systems' core business in 2023.
To garner expert predictions about what this year will look like for the healthcare sector, Health Tech Nerds surveyed 90 digital health startup executives and investors.
The survey participants predicted that Amazon and Optum would be the healthcare sector's two top acquirers of 2023, with 10 percent and 8 percent of respondents mentioning these companies in potential deals.
According to the report, Amazon's predicted acquisition targets include Color, Walgreens and Smile Digital Health.
In addition to the retail and digital health companies Amazon might buy, some respondents also predicted that the tech giant will buy a payer in 2023.
There was some speculation about Amazon one day acquiring an insurer when the company announced it was planning to acquire One Medical in a $3.9 billion purchase, and 32 percent of survey participants said that type of deal could materialize in 2023.
